In this multicultural world we live in we have to be able to communicate using minimal information and filling in the blanks based on our existing knowledge.

It does make it a lot easier however if it is correctly spelled and in some cases it is absolutely crucial, even life saving or life threatening if not.

Yep I am one of the 55 people who can. It is not only reading the word as a whole, most of us process phrases even sentences in one large gulp.

Wonder what the 'strangeness' means?

It was quite satisfying to be able to decipher this. But it reminded me of when I had a stroke - the letters were all over the place rather like this, I couldn't understand a jot of it all then. (Don't we take reading fro granted?)
